Established in 1999, The Tavern Food & Spirits is a family owned bar and restaurant. It stemmed from the original Ye Olde Tavern on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, NC. In the 1980’s, Ye Olde Tavern moved to New Hope Commons Shopping Center in Durham, where it became The Tavern Food & Spirits.
The Tavern moved in 2009, to a newly renovated 6000 square foot bar and restaurant. The building had quite a history before it’s tenure as The Tavern. It originated in the 1940’s as Pattishall’s Garage, and then later as the Music Loft. The owners were able to move and reconstruct the entire original custom Oak bar, including the brick footer. In addition to constructing the longest bar in Durham, they created custom seating and a commercial kitchen. Since it opened the doors in 2009, the owners continue to strive to make The Tavern a place for everybody to have fun.
